“How magical painting can be. It gives us the ability to project our interior world onto a screen so we can see and know ourselves better. It can go back and reveal to us our origins and it can move forward ahead of consciousness to reveal who we are to become.”

Mark Weiss

Mark Weiss has been a visual artist since 1977, on his journey discovering the skill of letting go control over an art piece. In manipulating the paint, he waits for the images to present themselves to him, letting them lead him. He creates large scale oil paintings on canvas. In 1998, he began a fellowship in Italy to photograph his work as they were progressing so that viewers could have a deeper understanding of his process. He continues that process to this day, along with a passion of astrology.

From the artist: “Over the last couple of decades, the nature of the paintings has changed to what I would best describe as anagoges. Anagoges are symbols that defy meaning and place the viewer beyond the literal, allegorical, and moral senses into the spiritual, numinous, and mystical senses. The viewer must be very active in being informed by the images and create their own understanding of it.”
